Nina had been introduced to us at HMP Downview, and we had just successfully placed her into paid retail work, when the prison was re-roled as a men’s establishment, and the women decamped elsewhere. Many of the women “working out” on the ROTL (Release on temporary licence) scheme had to give up their paid work as they were scattered across the few remaining women’s prisons in the South East.
Nina was determined to keep her employment. Together with AFC we negotiated with her new prison establishment, and her employers at the store where she worked, to find a way we could maintain Nina’s employment, thereby greatly improving her chances of having a job on release and not re-offending.
Despite a long journey right across London, Nina has been able to maintain the job. When she is released we will help her transfer to a branch of the company nearer her home.
